"Breathtaking images from a scope you're willing to carry on the trail" 2007-02-27
By Eric B. (Ann Arbor, MI USA)
I have been using the Leica APO Televid 62 Angled scope for a couple of years and have been positively delighted with it. The images are so beautiful, I can't help but smile every time I look through it. Whether it's an egret, an owl, an otter, or an ibis, the view is simply spectacular. When other people on the trail ask what I'm looking at, they gasp in amazement when they see how big and bright and colorful the image is.

The small size, light weight, and rugged design are what allow me to bring it out on the trail in the first place. The unit fits easily in my carry-on bag, along with my very compact carbon fiber tripod. With a nylon case, the two are easy to carry on a shoulder strap while hiking. Compared with the larger Televid 77, this is where the 62mm angled scope shines - its short length and small diameter mean it isn't cumbersome while slung over the shoulder, and the light weight, upturned eyepiece, and moderate magnification permit you to use a small tripod.

It's easy to adjust to other people's height, too, thanks to the angled body that can rotate, allowing the eyepiece to point upward for tall people, downward for kids, sideways, or any angle in between, all without losing the subject in the viewfinder. Once the position is set, you can lock it in with a set screw.

The sunshade has a handy aiming feature that allows you to aim the telescope at the subject before putting your eye to the eyepiece. I purchased it with the 16-48X zoom eyepiece that makes quick work of finding a subject, then zooming in on it for a good look. There are two easy-to-reach focus knobs, one for course adjustment, and one for fine. By my taste, the course adjust knob requires a bit too much force to turn, making it less responsive in fleeting situations than I would prefer. The other quibble I have is that the eyepiece doesn't positively lock onto the body, allowing it to occasionally partially unscrew during zooming. It has never actually come off, but I would like an unlock button just to be safe.

If you don't need to carry a spotting scope on an airplane or take it far from the car, a larger scope will give more satisfying magnification. But if you need mobility, the APO Televid 62 is a terrific travelling companion.

If you are interested in observing the world of plants and animals more intensely, for longer periods of time and with greater magnification than that provided by binoculars, you should become more familiar with the LEICA TELEVID high-performance spotting scope. LEICA TELEVID is a 2-element, non-cemented achromatic lens. LEICA TELEVID guarantees brilliant viewing from daybreak well into twilight, and it brings out even the smallest details accurately and distinctly.  "Great Optics, Zoom & Focus for the Price!!!!" 2009-02-01
By J. Sebenius (kansas)
Greetings,

For all of you out there looking for a great pair of Binoculars, this is the pair for outdoor enthusiasts who go camping or hiking and like to spot birds and animals in the 300 yard range. (for good close-up views)

The binoculars work good to the max range and focus easily. Once you use this powerview rocker focus, you will never want anything else, in my opinion of course. I have had this pair of binoculars for over 20 years and I have tried others. I like these the best for price and best function. You WILL NOT be disapointed. Let me know what you think...

The 7-15x35 zoom binocular (by Bushnell) is a great value. ...Trust me!

Sincere Regards, Jamie

 "Excellent portable binoculars" 2008-06-15
By James J. Wheeler (Sterling Heights, MI United States)
Excellent portable binoculars for sporting events at low 9X power and for stationary objects at the 27X power. At 27X power the picture does get dim and it is hard to keep hands steady on object but with binoculars this compact you would expect such. Was able to view people's faces and emotions across the Detroit Tiger's baseball field. Was able to watch Red Bull Air Race planes wiz by at 200+ MPH on the Detroit river and occasionally zoom in to see what Canada was up to on their side of the river during non-race moments. Very useful binoculars for many occasions and they are small enough that you will have them with you when needed.

 "Great Product" 2008-05-29

This item was exactly what I was looking for. They are light weight and work very well.

 "Hunter" 2007-07-30
By Thomas Marchetti (Missouri/Illinois)
Best binoculars for the money. They are semi compact, not to big & not to small. The quick adjust is great & the variable power is an added bonus. I have already recommended these to some other hunters I know & would recommend them to anyone.

 "Great Combination of Features" 2001-06-09
By
This binocular is inexpensive, fairly compact, has insta-focus, and most importantly...it has a zoom! You can go from 7X magnification to 15X magnification, which is perfect from anything to a wide view to getting really really close. Great construction and durability, I am really pleased with it.

 "AWESOME!!" 2009-10-11
By Joshua Thompson (Box Elder County, UT)
These binos are AWESOME! My right eye and left eye are quite a bit different, and I have always had issues getting binoculars to focus to both eyes (I usually just end up closing my left eye), but with these, they both focus perfectly! A few people have complained about not getting them to focus at close distances, these are 12X binoculars, they are not meant to do that. If you want a closer look at things that are already close, get some 4X binoculars, if you want to count the tines on that buck 30-800 yards away, these are great!

 "permafocus" 2009-01-14
By Laura Plantation Company (louisiana)
I was disappointed. The binoculars gave a jpermanent focus but only for objects further than 100 feet. I had used this product before and the focus was permanent for both far and near.

 "Best I've ever owned" 2008-10-20
By Bruin Steve (Calabasas, California)
I normally wear glasses for distance...I don't need them when using these...Everything is always perfectly in focus--instantly--no knobs or adjustments to mess with. Great wide angle for sporting events, 10X power brings everything in real close...

Yes, I agree with the folks who claim these won't focus on things within a few feet (using them at the Rose Bowl, the effective limit seems to be about 15-20 rows in front of me or closer), but who uses binoculars to look at things close to you? At the Rose Bowl, my seats are in Row 40 and, from where I sit, these are incredible...I can follow the referees' first down measurements on the field almost down to the number of chain links...But, again, what really makes these is the lack of any required adjustment and the uncanny way they instantly adjust to my eyes--or to anyone else's regardless of whether they wear glasses or not...

I will never buy any other type of binoculars again.

 "WAY COOL!" 2006-08-17
By Daisey31 (SoCal)
We just got these for a trip to Alaska. I LOVE them! They are so easy to share. The sharpness of the image is AMAZING! My Dad wears glasses and I don't. No problem. We can both see CLEARLY! The amazing part is he doesn't need to have his glasses on! My husbands eyesight is completely different than mine, same story.Very cool item! Very well constructed. Highly recommended!

"Convenient in focus but large, heavy" 2005-08-02
By Karen J. Bedell (Denham Springs, LA USA)
If you want to catch something in the binoculars quickly without fooling around trying to focus... this is it. We live on a lake and we always have something in the wild to catch our eye. This has been very beneficial to have the focus there at all times. They are a bit bulky and somewhat heavy but an excellent pair of binoculars. The "shake" with the power is not bad like we thought it would be. I can not say enough about Bushnell as a company. They support and back their products like I have never seen in ANY other company. I will ALWAYS buy this brand from now on because of this.

"Great price for great binoculars" 2009-10-09
By Paul Choate (Sacramento, CA USA)
If you want good value then these are your binoculars. When I got them I went out in the street and read a license plate three blocks away. I'm nearsighted - 220 in one eye 160 in the other - yet I can balance the binoculars sans glasses & get a crisp view at any distance in a couple seconds. Good for dim light. We are going to the Grand Canyon and also to the U2 "Claw" tour and these are perfect. The rubber lens caps are sturdy & fit tight so hiking in dirt and wet will be okay. They are fairly light for their size, but they aren't small. Very nice lightweight nylon weave case and strap.

 "Excellent binoculars!" 2009-07-20
By H. MOON (Sacramento, CA USA)
I'm no expert on these things, but we took them on our recent trip to Denali, and they were just what we needed! Rugged, good feel, excellent optics. We zoomed in so easily on the bears and sheep and other critters! They're too big for me to take to a football game, but for wilderness viewing, they're the tops in my book!

 "Great Binoculars" 2009-02-09
By Gary Jones (Louisiana)
These are great binoculars. Compared to several other sets I have purchased, these binoculars are much more clear and are particularly good in low light conditions. In low light, the image through the binoculars is brighter than with the naked eye. In addition, compared to my other binoculars, these produce a very sharp image. The price is certainly right for Pentax quality. Hard to believe you can get them for this price. I keep a set in my car and another set at home. These are not small, but they are not too heavy either.

 "Fine Choice" 2008-05-10
By Stefos (New England)
Needed an extra set (pair) of binoculars to keep in the car for unexpected birding moments and I am pleasantly surprised and pleased overall. After I received them I did a comparison with a pair of Nikon Action binoculars with the same specs. These binoculars give just as clear a view, and it is a fine, bright, clear view. The only difference I noticed between the two binoculars is that the Nikon binoculars give a bigger field of view in the circle. That is, I noticed a slightly larger black circle around the edges of the viewing circle with these Pentax binoculars. Still, they seem excellent for my application and I was able to recently view a nearby loon and duck with ease. These binoculars also are very well designed ergonomically, allowing me to get a good grip on them when holding them.

"Binocular that is good not great" 2008-04-28
By Scott Mcintire
The Pentax XCF 10x50 is very shape and lets in great light, distance viewing is great. The only problem for me is the close-up focal distance is not close enough, about 25 feet, I'm used to about 15 feet.

 "Best For astronomy" 2009-04-02

highly recommended. Clear Bright View !!!! Make sure you buy a sturdy tripod along with this..

 "Frustrating" 2008-10-29
By SWoftheRockies
The other comments on the mounting screw having a lot of play are very true. Tighten all you want, duct tape might work better. The magnification is strong enough that, after 6 months, I found a tripod to be mandatory. The Celestron recommended tripod added to my frustration. I never thought that something as basic as going to a point in the sky and having a steady view would be such a chore. The biggest gripe I have with these binocs is the chromatic aberration. With daytime use this isn't noticeable but a few stars or a planet against a dark sky and it is a significant problem. I expected some aberration at the edges, after all these aren't $3,000 binocs, but what I found was I had it dead . Recently I had a great view of Jupiter with 3 moons visible. I was hoping to spend several minutes taking in the sight and seeing if I can make out features on the planet. Instead it was a collection of roundish rainbows that had me back in the house after a few seconds.

"Great for bird, nature watching, marine life viewing and night sky viewing." 2008-09-15
By Reviewer (USA)
I read the reviews here and learned a lot. Thanks. So far so good. These are heavy as warned. You need to brace yourself against something to hold still and, or support the heavy base on something like a post or rock. I don't care though. I can see so much more now and I can identify so much more. I'm having a ball. I use the no-fog cloths on the lenses (sold separately). I do think this helps cut down the moisture on the lenses at the coast and the frequent cleaning of the lenses keeps the picture sharper. I hold the binoculars up and I can see birds where there was nothing with the naked eye. I don't try to chase the birds, I just hold the binoculars steady and the birds fly through the viewing field. The light shines off the ocean waves at sunset and I still don't have a problem with glare. I have to say, this is a blast so far! I feel like I'm right out there flying with the birds, free. It's an amazing 3D feeling! It immediatley relieves my stress from the face pace at work. I come home a new person.

"The best binoculars I have ever owned!" 2008-02-22
By Terry Mack (Villa Park, IL USA)
These 25x100 SkyMaster beauties are amazing. Once these are mounted on a sturdy tripod (good luck finding one) you are in for a treat! Nicely portable I brought these out to get great views of the most recent lunar eclipse and the Ooohhh's and Aaahhh's I heard from the students, parents and faculty during an elementary school star party, I was very pleased.

I had compared these to more expensive binoculars and these blew them away in clarity, colimation and view. Comparing the SkyMasters to several other binoculars at another star party...there is no comparison. General consensus - Celestron SkyMasters are superior! And the Amazon price can't be beat!

"The most bang for the buck!" 2007-09-12
By oc9399 (Hyperborea)
I finally got to test these the other evening under a dark, moonless sky on the Washington coast and was not disappointed. True, the mounting is not exactly adeqaute for the sheer size of these binoculars but they still work if you're careful and have a steady tripod. Some highlights from my viewing: M81 and M82 (both galaxies fit nicely in the f-o-v), M31 stretched across the entire f-o-v, Sagittarius was a treasure trove of deep-sky objects (especially the Lagoon and Trifid Nebula), and last but not least M13 - spectacular! I even barely glimpsed the distant galaxy NGC 6207 in the f-o-v using a fair amount of averted vision. I think this pushes the binoculars to their limit.

These bincoulars will also reveal detailed views of the moon, the satellites of Jupiter, the crescent of Venus, and even Saturn (just barely) in less than favorable sky conditions. Also, open star clusters(re: Perseus, M44, Pleiades) are visually stunning - much more so than what a high-powered telescope would reveal.

Overall, highly recommended for the price. If you want a bigger binocular with all the bells and whistles, be prepared to pay thousands of dollars.

 "Bird Watching" 2009-05-25

 "Good deal" 2009-05-19
By W. Zinn (Pittsburgh, PA)
We had purchased a pair of these Bushnell binoculars last year for my use, and we enjoyed them so much, that we decided to get the same model for my wife. The optics are excellent and the eye relief level is great for those who wear eyeglasses. The only complaint is that the objective lens caps won't stay on. However, a quick call to Bushnell and they'll send a free replacement pair, which work much better.

 "Excellent quality, economical buy" 2006-07-13
By Michelle Ferrara
The NatureView 8 x 42 Roof Prism Binoculars are an incredibly good pair of binoculars. I searched around and compared the specifications of several Bushnell binos and I decided on these. I couldn't be happier with my choice. The field of view (330' @ 100 yrds)is perfect for birding, making it easy to follow a bird as it flies from perch to perch. The color optics are amazing, as I've never seen the plumage so clearly before. This binocular in particular is nicely streamlined on account of the roof prisms, not bulky like the NatureView Plus 8 x 42. I highly recommend purchasing these great binoculars.
